Sad Superheroes Make Me Smile
Posted: January 12th, 2012 | Author: artintolife | Filed under: art | Tags: art, artists, drawings, humor, popular culture, portraits, public art, street artGod I love art that makes me smile. That just makes me smile. It doesn’t great art in some absolute terms. Life is too short to be that serious most of the time. But art that is visually appealing and at least a little bit funny. This week I’ve run across some art that just warms my heart. Ahh. Smile.
First, there’s Lora8(aka Lorazombie)’s Depressive Super Heroes series. Awesome.

Sadly, these prints (and a couple of other Superhero prints that are almost equally fun) are sold out. I will keep an eye out and let you know if Lora8 has anything great for sale.
And then there are Max Zorn’s packing tape portraits. Completely nutty. These are made using brown packing tape and a scalpel. Period. You can see more portraits on My Modern Met.
If you want to know more about Zorn’s Stick Together project, visit his website. It is interesting that, while both of these artists do produce discreet works, they are both fundamentally street artists. I think part of what makes street art so great, part of why it can be such an energizing aspect of a city, is that often street artists approach their work with levity, without taking themselves too seriously. Who can’t appreciate that?
